Happy Labor Day

Well it's finally time for another holiday. It's Labor Day!!! That means no WORK!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend. I know that here it is supposed to be sunny and between the upper 70's and low 80's the whole weekend. We did get this weekend off and the next two weekends after are volunteer as of right now. I'll probably volunteer for at least one Sunday. (Doubletime ya know!!)

Next Saturday, we have the Cross Country Carnival, a large racing event for literally thousands of school students, and we Amateur radio operators will be acting as communications for the event. We will be keeping an eye on the welfare of all the runners.

The following weekend, is our Heritage Festival. We go to that every year. Last year I was scheduled to work and didn't have a vacation day availlable for the Friday before. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

More on those events later.

Maleah's Sick

Well Mia went to the doctor today, and he took her off work 'til after the holiday weekend. She had to get a CT scan done on her abdomen.

Last Sunday, she started to not feel well. She went to work Monday and Tuesday and left work early Tuesday night. Now we have to wait and see what the doctor finds out. And don't anybody say PREGNANT! LOL

I myself have been pretty worn out lately. I just finished the 10th day of a 12 day workweek. We had to work this past Saturday and Sunday. We have the upcoming weekend off for the holiday, but are possibly going to have the following two weekends (Saturday only) to work. Right now it is supposed to be voluntary, but who knows. I was told by one of the members of management, that we could be looking at weekend overtime all the way to February. Just in time for the snow to start falling, they're gonna give us our weekends back.

Flooding in Northwest Ohio

Well, the past week was very interesting. Starting Saturday night, August 18 it started raining, and didn't want to stop. It rained pretty much continuously for three days. We had Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, Flood Watches and Flood Warnings. The Sandusky River through Tiffin started to rise. It wasn't too bad at first, but the river starts one county to our South, where they received over 8 inches of rain in 7 hours. So of course all that rain had to go somewhere, and that somewhere was upstream to us. Our flood stage is 8', and the river crested at 10.6' on Thursday afternoon.

We were pretty lucky in Tiffin though. Some towns nearby were devastated by flood waters. Findlay and another town, almost broke flood records from 1913. There are certain websites where you can view pictures from the floods. Just do a Google search for recent Ohio flooding and see what you come up with.

Here are some photos that I took last week:

Charlotte Street near High School

E. Davis Street, A good fishing spot,
especially now.

East Davis Street

Blair Street and E.Davis
Streets meet here.

Water Street at the end
of our street.
No, that's not a joke!
