Back into photography

Well, I've recently got myself back into the joy of photography. I've been taking some pictures again, but it is so expensive to get film developed anymore. I would like to have my own darkroom someday. Maybe I could eventually open my own portrait studio. The opening picture is one I took of Maleah last Friday night. It's my first digital camera, and is only 1.3 mega pixel, so of course I would like to upgrade to an 8 or 10 mp. I'm also looking at some digital SLR cameras. Maleah is very photogenic. This picture was taken with the digital camera and just a fluorescent lamp with shade slightly tilted. Below are some pictures I've taken in the past and are some of my favorites.

I have also entered quite a few into online photo contests and some have received editors pick, including the one of Maleah. Getting Editors pick, means that they have advanced from the first round of judging. Hope you like the pics. Please do not copy any of the pics. Thank you!!

Tiffin Heritage Festival

Well, this weekend is the time of year for our Annual Heritage Festival. We go every year, but this year, it was kind of sloppy.

They usually have lots to do and lots going on. We went to the Heritage Village around 5:00 pm, and they started shutting down around 6:00.

We decided to go uptown to see what was going on there, and they had one of the roads where most of the crafts and stores were, already closed up for the night.

We are going to try again tomorrow, but it seems that anymore, it's mostly about the rides, food, beer tents and bands. You could go to any carnival or fair for all of that. What happened to the "Heritage" part of it all?

I'm thinking next year we may just stay home. Tomorrow, I am going to help with communications for the Heritage Bike Tour, along with the other amateur radio operators. That's kind of like the CCC that we did last week. We just keep an eye on the bicyclists welfare and report to each other, or call if there is a problem.

Cross Country Carnival

Well today was the Cross Country Carnival at a local park in Tiffin. There were thousands of runners there from schools all over the state. They all did a wonderful job. There were numerous incidents that we (amateur radio operators) had to handle throughout the day.

The weather was very nice for the most part. We had one delay due to thunderstorms moving through the area. The temps were in the upper 70's most of the day. It was very humid though.

At my location, there were 3 incidents. 1. A girl was in need of her inhaler, so I called for a cart to come pick her up. 2. 4 girls got stung while walking under a Hornet's nest. I spent the first part of the day trying to keep people away. As the day got hotter and more humid, the hornets got more agitated. Park crews finally made it over and taped off the area so no one else was able to walk underneath it. 3. There was a runner that collapsed and was having trouble breathing. Her coaches showed up and sat with her for a little while, and then decided they wanted a cart to take her to the EMS tent.

Breanna was with me today and had to visit the EMS tent a well. She got one of her bloody noses, and it lasted over 20 minutes. I called for the cart to come get her, and she went and got attended to. I had Maleah come and pick her up and take her home so she could cool off. I think hers might be heat triggered like mine were when I was a kid.

The day got started at 7:30 AM, although I got up at 6:00, and we were finished at 7:00 PM. I was glad to be done, because I got another one of my migraines that is just now going away after about 4 to 4 1/2 hours.

That's all for now!! Next weekend is our Heritage Festival, and we have the Heritage Bike Tour to provide communications for. More on that next weekend.

Amateurs preparing for communications for the event!
