Cross Country Carnival

Well today was the Cross Country Carnival at a local park in Tiffin. There were thousands of runners there from schools all over the state. They all did a wonderful job. There were numerous incidents that we (amateur radio operators) had to handle throughout the day.

The weather was very nice for the most part. We had one delay due to thunderstorms moving through the area. The temps were in the upper 70's most of the day. It was very humid though.

At my location, there were 3 incidents. 1. A girl was in need of her inhaler, so I called for a cart to come pick her up. 2. 4 girls got stung while walking under a Hornet's nest. I spent the first part of the day trying to keep people away. As the day got hotter and more humid, the hornets got more agitated. Park crews finally made it over and taped off the area so no one else was able to walk underneath it. 3. There was a runner that collapsed and was having trouble breathing. Her coaches showed up and sat with her for a little while, and then decided they wanted a cart to take her to the EMS tent.

Breanna was with me today and had to visit the EMS tent a well. She got one of her bloody noses, and it lasted over 20 minutes. I called for the cart to come get her, and she went and got attended to. I had Maleah come and pick her up and take her home so she could cool off. I think hers might be heat triggered like mine were when I was a kid.

The day got started at 7:30 AM, although I got up at 6:00, and we were finished at 7:00 PM. I was glad to be done, because I got another one of my migraines that is just now going away after about 4 to 4 1/2 hours.

That's all for now!! Next weekend is our Heritage Festival, and we have the Heritage Bike Tour to provide communications for. More on that next weekend.

Amateurs preparing for communications for the event!
